Will not buy GW2 until I am sure Anet will stop nerfing skills, and completely stop any type of "balancing" to ensure everyone is on an even playing field.

Anet destroyed GW, because they focused all their attention around only one part of the game, that being HOH, all the balancing for builds and skills was done because of player complaints that certain groups were dominating HOH, thus Anets efforts to "balance" that part of the game, in return destroyed PvE. This continued until GWEN. Also Anet realized their mistake, but instead of restoring what they had destroyed, they came out with gimmick skills which only enraged the community more.

I enjoyed all aspects to GW, but Anet needs to learn that their focus, when game play is involved should be towards every part of the game, not just one area of the game. They also need to stop tweaking the game for the worse, not the better. That means no more nerfing of skills. So I hope they are testing their skills well before final release of the game to ensure that everything is on an even keel. Still, however I will most likely wait a couple of months before making my decision to buy the game, to ensure it's not business as usual once Anet gets their revenues in game sales.

I was actually thinking...why not buy GW2 anyway (even if you aren't going to play it after) to play through the storyline, like most have with GW1 and just stop. I know some people who did with GW1 like I said. You could still check out GW2, play it till you ebat it on one or two characters, then be done. When a new expansion comes out you can beat that too. You guys can't be THAT materialistic about a damn game not even released yet that you won't even play it once to have a feel for the storyline or complete it?

This is of course... if GW2 is a storyline based game like GW1....

Just another one of my 2cents

I won't be buying GW2, but that's only because I've given up gaming altogether. The industry is increasingly focused on mainstream, "quantity over quality" attitudes, which gives me absolutely no confidence in their ability to make games that are worth my time to play.

This.

It seems the gaming golden age has passed, companies are more worried about squeeze every dollar from the players that actually provide a fun game.

I will buy GW2 for sure, surely the CE.

But i have to tell i dont like how ANet handling GW1 since GW2 has been announced like 2-3 years ago. Since 2 years they are giving us nothing to play in PVE. Empty mission areas, same missions, titles what you can only grind during events, same events, with same monolouges.

PvP is quiet unaccesable in any form (except RA and AB wich are rather not real PvP) for those who was trying to get into after 2008. Elitism everywhere.

I was really expecting at least 1 more expansion in the past 2 years to keep ppl in the game. 90% of the ppl i was playing with in the past 4 years are quited GW already becouse it is boring. They are loosing ppl everyday. The only thing keep me in GW is that i want to max Hom so i can take advantage in GW2 from it.

AND they told us to be patient after GW2 beta was promised to be made until 2008 december.

Of course i`ll be buying it the same instant it becomes available. What kind of silly question is this?

"Will Anet's Handling Of GW1 Dissuade You From GW2?"

No. If anything, it's the opposite.

One: Could have been better, but I don't have any problem with their handling. In many ways I have been impressed.

Two: N/A since I didn't answer "no" to one.

If ANet's support for GW2 matches the pattern of GW1 (which I think was great for several years) I'll be happy. I've had years of enjoyment from GW1, its one of the best value games I've ever bought. The way things have turned out in its twilight, doesn't bother me - it's even to be expected after this long.

ill buy it cause i did love gw at one time some of the things ive heard from anet and from past experience says i tend to dislike sequels but it wont stop me from buying it. i got a half dozen sequels that just sit here but there is the odd one in ten chance i might like it or love it more then gw and that makes up for every cent spent on other sequels in the past so ill take the gamble from the start

Going and buying GW2 after playing with GW1 is like women in general. They are pretty much the same just different lumps and humps. hehe They all lure you in and then when they getcha they want to CHANGE everything and most especially about YOU not THEM. I wouldn't expect much difference in GW2 from the last few versions of GW1. There's going to be grind, titles and solo play oriented (that should tell you right there it's not going to be like it was in the beginning). More of an open pvp system in a persistant world (with player choice so that means no ganking like in the good ole online rpgs origionally)

All GW2 is is just another suck the customers out of their money rehash of this one. It won't really be any better it will just have a few new bells and whistles for the same price. You have to open your eyes and see this company doesn't survive on monthly fees therefore it has to reproduce the same game over and over again and different pretty pictures for more money out of you.

What will determine if I buy it or not is the persistant world pvp system. I've played their pve game and it's pretty boring and easy even solo 99.9% of everywhere in the game. Plus losing my favorite heroes to become just one beefed up power character is not my idea of fun. I like party combat and I like creating my own characters. Even though heroes ruined GW1 I still like them when I play more than the stupid henchies they created. (dumb stupid programmers).

See, it's pretty much granted GW2 will be an awesome game, unless big changes unbeknownst to us happened at ANet. But since their managerial and decisional departments suck it's bound to rot like GW1 did, so I'll be playing it from day one until it stays fun.

GW was a great game. But that's the sad part, it "was" a great game and it aged really bad unfortunately. They basically dumped it all when they realized they failed to build something durable and maintainable and they've turned it from fun to a grind festival.

So I am pretty sure they will do the same with GW2, sooner or later.

I guess I'm on the cautious side now. I won't buy right away that's for sure. I might not buy at all as I am kind of tired of MMOs and "leveling up" ideas

But I'm looking for a fun game, one that makes me feel good after playing and gives me the occasional laugh. Any suggestions anyone? Somehow I think GW2 is not going to be that game, I think it will (as GW did) turn into a grind fest sooner or later (and the info so far: high level cap, grinding for crafting eq with stats that really matter not just looks, etc... it actually seems to incorporate grind right from the start)

No. I left GW like a year ago and don't really care how they did with it.

I'll play GW2 for 1-2 years, and if shit happens, I'm off.

Haven't worked on HoM for nothing lol + It looks great so far

Altho, If I were to choose between having GW2 or Diablo 3 released first, I'd say Diablo.
Looks lot more kickass to me =)

As well as can be expected. Far from perfect, but it could have and can be far worse.

It won't. I am 95% likely to get GW2 CE on preorder. If you work out my cost per hour on my main account for GW1 I'm below 2p an hour. That alone means that the game is good in terms of cost for me. If I don't get the game it will be for some other reason - starting a family, job/time restrictions, lost interest in games for example.

ITT: We think we know whether or not we'll be buying Guild Wars 2, based on a 4.5 year old game and the very limited amount of LORE we have so far.

Uhh... Yeah..

I assume we'll have GW3 in 2016?
That'll leave us a nice 6 years of playtime.

I'd rather that there be little, but nice updates every now and then in GW1 and lots of work on GW2, than major updates every now and then and a fair amount of work on GW2. We'd have to wait for it even longer.

I played Diablo 3 at BlizzCon twice in a row.

I can guarantee you, it's absolutely amazing. I went last year and the year before.

Re: OP questions...

1] The handling's OK; on the one hand it would have been nice to have a less pronounced drop-off (full team > half team > live team), but on the other hand it would have been foolish to slow down GW2 leaving staff working on not-for-profit GW1 content.

2a] Handling of GW1 post-EotN has in no way negatively impacted my enthusiasm for GW2.

2b] I will be playing/pre-ordering ASAP, though I'm not sure if I'd want to volunteer for beta as it might detract my launch experience (I usually just beta test games I've neutral-to-little interest in).

2c] Sadly I must lol at the community feedback notion; GW1 is my favorite game ever with my greatest entertainment cash-return ratio ever, but if I'd approached it via 'the community' I'd have been under the impression that its a pile of junk coded by monkeys for the sole purpose of fleecing a few dozen PvPers and OCD farmers.

2d] Not sure what is meant by support here, as I don't associate the GW franchise with having formal support beyond sending NCsoft tickets and watching your inbox. Since the business model remains the same, I'm certainly not expecting GW2 to have official forums or in-game moderators either.

Yes anet have done pretty well keeping gw1 going while putting resources into gw2.
I look forward to gw2 and hope it has some familiar aspects while being a different enough game to hold my interest for years to come.

I do like the idea of there being areas where players can meet up other than in specific pvp games, not sure how it will play out but look forward to trying it out.
gw pvp has never impressed me its far to boring difficult yes but still very limited, so Am keen to see what they come up with in that area.
